How the government support will apply to Community Residents
21st December 2022
The Government has announced support for UK businesses that will see energy bills discounted for most non-domestic energy customers: this means people who live in residential properties that have a non-domestic energy contract through a third-party provider/landlord, such as yourselves.
Where Community has received this discount from your provider, we have amended your tariff accordingly and passed any benefit received directly to you.
The EBRS scheme runs for 6 months from 1st October to 31st March 2023 and we expect an update on any further support to be announced in January should there be further help on bills.
We have also been in contacted the Government and your local MPs regarding the lack of clarity surrounding how and when our residents will receive the £400 EBSS support. It has now been confirmed that there will be an Alternative Fund made available to those who have not automatically been reached due to the set-up of their supply contracts.
It has been confirmed that those eligible for the non-repayable Alternative Fund of £400 will be made available in January, where residents can make an application to apply for this benefit in January 2023.
We believe that you'll be able to apply either online, via the Gov.uk website, or via a dedicated customer helpline - the Government will provide details of this application process in January.
Once your application has been processed, your details will be shared with your local council, who will be responsible for processing your payment. We're still checking exactly how you'll be paid and will update you when we know more.
Exactly when you'll receive your payment will depend on when you made the application and when it was processed.
We will update you again in the New Year on when the application is available.
