How Build to Sell works

When a site is Build to Sell (BTS) as opposed to Build to Rent (BTR), there are a few fundamental differences for the Community Utilities Model to work effectively.

The developer of the BTS site needs to use the homemove portal to provide the details for the initial owner of the apartments and as per standard process, this would need to include:

  • Owner name

  • Owner email address

  • Owner contract telephone number

  • Owner occupation date

  • Meter reads for all relevant utilities being billed under Community Utilities service

The key difference is where the owner opts to let out the property either directly or through a letting agency. Unless we are provided with the details of tenants, either by the owners or by any appointed agency, the owner will remain liable for all services under the Community model provided for the respective site.

We will retain owner details on our billing system, so for any period where we are not informed of a tenant taking responsibility, any bills for that time-period will automatically default back to the owner being the point of contact who is responsible for those bills during that time.

The home move portal is where you will be able to update tenant information.
